Fall Break
We hope this message finds you and your family safe and well. As we continue to navigate the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, our priority is to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, our north Bryan (Pembroke Area) schools remain without power and will stay closed until students return from fall break, Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Additionally, approximately 40-50% of our staff who support these schools are also still without power and unable to return to work as well as some roads are impassable for buses. On a brighter note, all of our south Bryan (Richmond Hill area) schools have power restored, and will return to normal operations tomorrow. We recognize that many families across both north and south Bryan are still dealing with the storm's impact, and we want to support you as much as possible during this challenging time. Our goal is to bring a sense of normalcy back to our students and families where we can. With that in mind, the south Bryan/Richmond Hill area schools will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, October 2nd, including: - Richmond Hill Primary School - Richmond Hill Elementary School - Carver Elementary School - Frances Meeks Elementary School - McAllister Elementary School - Richmond Hill Middle School - Richmond Hill High School For families in the Richmond Hill area who are unable to return due to ongoing storm-related challenges, please know that any absences will be excused. Take the time needed to prioritize your family’s safety and well-being. Before/afterschool and Community Education programs in the Richmond Hill area will operate as usual. However, these programs will remain suspended in the Pembroke area until we return from fall break. Our hearts are with everyone still recovering. To our north Bryan/Pembroke families, we are thinking of you as you continue to navigate this difficult time.

Update on Schools
Dear Bryan County Schools Families, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe as we all continue to recover from the effects of Hurricane Helene. Our team has been working diligently to assess all our campuses, and our primary concern remains the safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff. The Bryan County School System along with our Community Education before and after school programs will remain closed Monday and Tuesday. We are facing several challenges that are impacting our ability to reopen safely: - The Bryan County School System is served by three different power providers: Coastal EMC, Georgia Power, and Canoochee EMC. We are still without power and water at many of our school sites and do not have a definitive timeline for restoration. - Our food service operations have been disrupted due to lack of power. We are currently working to clean coolers and freezers, as well as redistributing food supplies from other school locations. Unfortunately, our main food distributor who serves approximately 100 school systems was also heavily impacted by the storm, and we are waiting for an update regarding future food deliveries. - In addition, many of our 1,600 employees were impacted by the storm and are still without power and water. As a result, many of them are unable to return to work at this time. We understand that these are challenging times, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore our schools and provide a safe environment for everyone. Your resilience and support means a lot to us, and we are committed to keeping you informed as we move forward. Please continue to take care of yourselves and your loved ones. We will provide more updates as soon as we have them. Warm regards, Paul T. Brooksher, Ph.D. Superintendent Bryan County Schools

Monday & Tuesday Closure
Bryan County Schools, in close coordination with our emergency services partners, have been actively monitoring Hurricane Helene. Based on the most recent projections, we anticipate our area experiencing tropical storm force winds tonight and possibly into early tomorrow morning. The projected wind speeds have actually increased since our debriefing yesterday. As a result of this new information and out of an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to close all schools and offices on Friday, September 27, 2024. While the weather may clear by Friday morning, we will not have sufficient time to thoroughly assess road conditions and the safety of our school buildings before scheduled bus pick-ups. We understand that weather predictions can change, and the path of the storm and intensity may shift. However, the safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority, and we believe closing schools is the most responsible decision at this time.

Bryan County Schools is closely monitoring Hurricane Helene and its potential impact on our area. Due to the predicted timing of the storm and the possibility of severe weather, all schools will dismiss two hours early on Thursday, September 26th. All community education classes, afterschool programs, and extracurricular activities have been canceled at this time to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you updated with any further developments. We have updated the following webpage with the latest afternoon drop-off times and locations. Please take note that there has been one change to the pick-up/drop-off locations for Mulberry. We kindly ask for your patience, as traffic conditions may cause some delays. Additionally, please ensure you arrive early at the stops. For safety reasons, elementary students will not be allowed off the bus without a parent or guardian present to pick them up. If you are unable to meet the bus at the stop, elementary parents must come to the school to pick up their child. Thank you for your attention and cooperation. https://www.bryan.k12.ga.us/page/transportation-modifications

We hope this message finds you safe. Portions of our county continue to be impacted by flooding due to Tropical Storm Debby. We understand that some families continue to experience significant challenges associated with this flooding. Please know that our schools will remain open for families whose children can safely attend. We recognize the importance of maintaining a routine and providing a safe place for students, especially as many parents need to continue working. Due to standing water, there will be NO TRANSPORTATION provided to certain areas of the county. We hope to notify those impacted families by the end of the day. We want to assure you that any and all absences related to flooding will be excused. Your family's safety is our top priority, and we understand that attending school may not be possible for some students at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the flooding. If your family is facing difficulties, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to support you in any way we can.
